Religious Education

First Eucharist families can schedule a Sunday Mass when a family is ready to celebrate the sacrament.

Confirmation Ceremonies are on Sunday, May 16, 2021 at 2:00pm, 3:30pm and 5:00pm at St Mary Church with Bishop O'Connell.  There is no Mass.  We are encouraging families to attend one of the weekend Masses in preparation for the confirmation ceremonies.

Sacrament Preparation for First Communion & First Reconciliation

To prepare for the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist, a candidate must be enrolled in the parish Religious Education program or attend Catholic school for at least one year prior (usually grade 1) and during the year of immediate preparation. The family is directly involved in preparing the child for the sacrament.

Confirmation Preparation

The Confirmation preparation process guides the candidate into the experience of the fullness of the Holy Spirit through the completion of the Sacraments of Initiation. Confirmation completes the grace of Baptism by the outpouring of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, which seals one’s baptism and unites the believer intimately to Christ and equips one to live as a disciple.

The process is a two-year period of formation. The earliest a candidate can prepare for the sacrament of Confirmation is in grade 9 with the celebration of the sacrament at the end of grade 10.  It consists of class sessions (approximately 12/year), 24 hours of service in total for two years and a retreat just prior to the celebration of the sacrament.

Confirmation sessions are on Monday evenings at St. John the Evangelist Church for the entire collaborative.

Confirmation for adults is available for those 18 and older who have received the Sacrament of the Eucharist and catechesis in the Catholic faith through eighth grade.

Information below is for High School youth wanting to prepare for Confirmation.
